Based in Geneva, Switzerland, Alchimic Theatre was founded in 1961 by Jean Fournier as “le cinéma horizontal“, a revolutionary invention that transformed the square screen, inherited from silent cinema, into the rectangular screen that makes it possible to obtain an almost unlimited panoramic image in the width direction, and which subsequently became the cinemascope that we all know.
Jean Fournier’s son, Michel Fournier, owner of the place, has always wanted the old mythical cinema, the Pigalle, to remain an artistic place. Thanks to him, the Geneva director, Pierre-Alexandre Jauffret, was able to set up a theatre with about a hundred seats.
